Victory in Europe-Day, 1945
The Victory in Europe day came on May 8th, 1945. This was the day in which the Nazi regime fell after the suicide of Adolf Hitler. After Germany and the soviets had betrayed one another the two sides worked very hard to take down the Nazis. On April 25th days before the end of the war the Germany army was almost completely diminished and they could not fight of the soviets. Days later when Hitler saw that Soviets and the Americans were coming for him he committed suicide.
The president of Germany who took over after the Third Reich would sign a surrender agreement with the allied powers that would end that war. That document was signed on May 7th making the ending of the war international news the following day. Victory in Europe day was celebrated greatly in the United States. This day marked the end of a war that had killed many American soldiers and although America was done fighting the European Theater they had to continue to fight the Japanese after this victory.
